2 years, 4 months, 11 days. [09 Jan 2012|02:51am]
29 Aug 2009|08:59pm

Fucking hell, that was a lifetime ago.

Since then, I lived in another country for a year*, gave up and came back to the land I loved, performed at the Edinburgh Fringe for the full run, made web series, turned 30, then 31, worked on and off as a paid actor, crashed a car, punched a man in the face and became a total Apple whore.

I still get wicked bad insomnia though.

Ebay, E-boo. [29 Aug 2009|06:08pm]
When did Ebay become such a horrific selling tool to use?

In the last hour I've had to fill out countless forms to prove I exist, answer the phone twice, and talk to a live chat person to establish where I lived.

Then after all that, I find out I HAVE to use paypal on my auction. This wouldn't be a huge problem, but paypal have started holding funds from sellers with under 100 feedback. I was planning to stick my laptop on there, but wouldn't get the funds until the person I sold it to receives it... again, not a huge problem, but when £350 is on the line, I'd rather not post it out until the cash is in my bank. Who is to say the buyer wouldn't claim they never received it? Paypal and Ebay would of course side with them (as all Ebay sellers are the Devil...) and I'd be out of pocket.

What a backwards system. It's terrible that they hold monopoly over the online car boot sale.

So yes. I still have a laptop and PS3 for sale...

Isn't Snow Leopard pretty?

The Bard of the Missing FireWire. [10 Aug 2009|04:49pm]
Apparently it's not possible to import video through USB... only firewire.

"That's not an issue..." I thought to myself, as I had very clearly told the nice man I bought this laptop from that the machine I bought MUST have firewire on it.

This laptop does not have firewire. I've only just acquired a camcorder so I never even looked for the port until today.

Shafted. I need to start uploading videos for my immense listy quest soon, and I can't get the video off the tapes. Bwah.

I forgot the BLINDING RAGE that trying to import video into Windows can cause.

MiniDV camera, USB out, Windows 7... NOTHING.

Hate hate hate / stab stab Bill Gates. Stab.

Go Weeeeeeeeeest! [22 Jul 2009|12:56pm]
I was clearly a bit hasty in my last post.

The room fell through, as most things that might improve my current situation tend to do... and when questioned about Europe my two friends went "oh... we... were a bit drunk."

It's seems Scarborough has me once more. I'm currently looking for work here, which is challenging as I have no skills in baby making, drug dealing, or sand sculpting. The Europe trip is off, or postponed until I can find some other like minded folks to come with me...

However, from the dust and the annoyance, a new plan is born.

Early next year I want (WANT) to travel the states with a large rucksack and train / bus my way around for a while. I know a fair few people over there so I'm hoping to plan my trip according to where people live.

So if you live in the States, if you think you think you'd like to see me, maybe you could hire... The Jay Team.

But no, seriously. If you think you could put me up for a day or two, let me know where you are and I'll put you on my map and see if I can make it happen!

Interesting Thymes. [11 Jul 2009|03:18pm]
After a few days of serious phone calls, favours and blaggingness, I have a plan!

I'll be moving into the house of a friend who was fortunate enough to be rewarded for graduating university with A FUCKING HOUSE. There's a spare room downstairs that was destined to become a dining room, but will instead become the dwelling hole of a Ginger for several months.

Work work work, save save save.

Then I'm off to Europe with a couple of friends in October for four weeks! I'll also be "touring" with my comedy troupe then, but luckily haven't got ANY dates in October, and they're the ones I'm going with. Maybe we can perform for bread or something while we're over there?

Back to York.

Work work work, save save save.

Then in March of 2010 I'm off to New Hampshire to live and work for a couple of months with a guy I met at Uni. We've always talked about me heading over there and now it seems to be a reality!

It's very odd knowing what life has in store for the next twelve months, but also oddly freeing. I foresee lots of board games and bean based meals as I scrape and save every penny.

FACE! [13 Jun 2009|01:18am]
title or description

I had some headshots done a few days ago, and out of the 4 I had sent to me this is my favourite... but it has a black background.

Do you think this matters? I was advised to have a white background but I look washed out and... odd on the white ones.

Skypey Skype Skrype. [06 Jun 2009|06:02pm]
I have installed this skype thing. I had a play with it once but had a rubbish webcam, and a rubbish connection!

If anyone would like to add me - jlsimcox1980

Creative, yes? Or you can just search for my name in the listings, I have nothing hide. Except for... you know... THAT.

Hotel California. [03 Jun 2009|12:14pm]
I'm attempting to organise a trip to London on the 23rd of June on the SMALLEST budget available.

Now, I've figured that the hideous Megabus is by far the cheapest option, but it means I'll have to stay in London overnight. Does anyone have any suggestions of easy to reach hotels? I'm going to see Avenue Q on the night, so anywhere central or easily reachable by tube?

I'm not very London savvy. Halp.

The Trouble with Truffles. [13 Apr 2009|02:56am]
Most of you facebook folks will be aware of this but a bit of self promotion never did Jesus any harm...

If you know anyone that might like this, please send the link to them. I'm way off the 365 mark and need as many suggestions as I can get my grubby little mitts on.

Ooooh-Aaar, No More. [07 Apr 2009|02:52am]
I am very confused.

I just listened to a radio interview I did with Rob a few years ago, and I have a rather broad Yorkshire accent... which now seems to have vanished entirely.

Is York really so posh that it has infiltrated my vocal chords?

Who Watches The Watchmen? Me! [12 Mar 2009|12:39am]
I pity Zach Snyder, I really do.

Here we have a director who was destined to suffer the wrath of the world regardless of the end quality of this film. One the one hand, we have the whiny little morons who inhabit internet forums moaning that Hollis Masons belt wasn't the same colour as it is in the graphic novel, and on the other we have typical cinema goers moaning that it "wasn't as good as the Dark Knight."

I think it's sad that this genre-breaking film will be held up in comparison to the recent barrowful of lacklustre "superhero" movies that have saturated our screens over the last decade. This has more in common with Citizen Kane or Blade Runner than Spiderman or The X-Men.

Watchman is about the characters. Lots of characters... and each one of these characters is vital to the telling of the story. Now, each one of these characters has a back story which intertwines with the back stories of all the other characters. Then there's the present story, which to understand clearly... you need to be able to understand the back... you get the idea.

On paper, it's a logistical nightmare for a film maker. Even Moore himself refused the notion that his baby could be captured on film. Terry Gilliam tried and failed, along with several other established directors.

The reality is... Snyder made a visually breathtaking film, and managed to tell a complex and moving story in under three hours. His original cut passed the three hour mark, but pressure from the studio forced him to cut and cut and cut, as is always the way.

The opening montage was near perfection. The comedians death was incredible. Where the hell they found the actors that not only played the characters well, but looked as if they had stepped out the page is a feat in itself.

And yes. There was a penis in it. The mindless fucking inbred children that giggled like retarded morons every... single... time... it appeared should be dragged out into the cold, wet street, tossed into the alley behind the cinema and be set upon by wild hounds.

Meanwhile... [07 Mar 2009|02:55pm]
A message of substance will no doubt occur at some point...

In the meantime, please accept yet another post asking a technical question.

After a week of woe and misery, I convinced this laptop to work with XP, thus freeing me from the shackles of Vistalike slavery. This morning I finally got the sound to work. Why vendors are abandoning XP and refusing to offer any support baffles me. Anyway...

I've noticed a significant drop in wireless connection speeds. I could pull in 800kbs with Vista, yet struggle to peak 200kbs in XP. I've set up a static i.p, but that's where my networking skills grind to a halt.
